GLOSSARY OF WAR IN UKRAINE

Glossary of War is a research-driven, multimedia project that aims to capture how the ongoing Russian war against Ukraine is shaping the everyday language, emotions, and symbols of Ukrainian society. It is, at its core, a piece of journalistic storytelling — mapping the words and concepts that have become central to life during wartime.

The project organises these terms into a visual glossary, where each word is brought to life through layered collages. These visualisations are built from a range of sources: children's drawings created in collaboration with a shelter for internally displaced families, interviews with active military personnel and volunteers, and references from contemporary Ukrainian literature and visual art.

A custom typeface was designed to support the tone of the project and tie the material together.
